Wedding Hair Oscar-Style

Wow, when I finished watching the 80th Annual Academy Awards and the one thing that really stood out was the hair. Many of the actresses got it right last night with the perfect styles to match all of their beautiful gowns.

There were several that really stood out for me that I think are worthy of considering for any modern bride. They are as follows:

1. Jennifer Garner - everything about her hair that night was perfection:

2. If you want to wear your hair down, Penelope Cruz's look is a winner:

3. Another great up-do was Nicole Kidman's:

4. Two wavy looks I adored were those worn by Forest Whitaker's wife, Keisha, and Katherine Heigl:

5. Hilary Swank's hair also dazzled on the red carpet:

6. If your hair is short, or you're considering cutting it, Rene Zellweger's hair was sassy and sophisticated at the same time:

7. And last but not least, if you really want to make a statement, and extreme chignons are your thing, you can't beat Heidi Klum's look for the night:

Ladies, all of these styles are worth trying on at home. Happy hairstyling!

Fabulous New Book - Fete: The Wedding Experience

I just bought the book Fete: The Wedding Experience by NY wedding planner extraordinaire Jung Lee. The photography in this book is simply stunning - particularly the cover shot. Check it out:

The book discusses Jung Lee's philosophy about wedding planning. I particularly love her statement on page 18 which is "Critical as every element is, planning your wedding should never be reduced to a checklist with each element given equal weight and attention."

Another favorite phase is the intro to Chapter 1: "Start with the fantasy in mind." That's definitely our intention behind FantasyWedding.net!

Thanks Jung Lee for writing a wonderful book and sharing so many beautiful wedding details with your readers. The books is available at Amazon.com, bn.com and all major bookstores.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hello Everyone:

It's Valentine's Day 2008 and so it feels like the perfect day to launch a new blog all about weddings. My name is Cheryl and I hope to use this space to bring you a fresh perspective on the latest trends and ideas about weddings.

In order to celebrate this special day that's all about love, I thought it would be great to start with the best celebrity weddings from the last 12 months (February 2007-February 2008).

Counting backwards, here are my favorite weddings of the last year:

Number 10: Lisa Ling and Paul Song (5/26/07)

Since it is Valentine's Day, it also seems appropriate to start with a wedding where the bride wore red. This was one of my favorite weddings of the year because this couple definitely did it their way. The bride wore a beautiful red dress which is a tradition in Chinese weddings and she looked fabulous in it. The ceremony and reception decorations were really unique and reflected the wonderful spirit of the bride and groom.

Number 9: Julianna Marguiles and Keith Lieberthal (11/17/07)

7 months pregnant at the time, the bride was still stunning in a Narcisco Rodriguez gown with long gloves.

Number 8: Wolfgang Puck and Gelilia Assefa (7/7/07)

Ah, Capri. With a backdrop like that, you can't go wrong. Wolfgang and Gelilia made a lovely couple. I particularly like his blue suit. And the bride's style feels like classic 1950's with a modern twist.

Number 7: Laila Ali & Curtis Conway (7/21/07)

Simply elegant. Fresh off her wonderful performances on "Dancing With the Stars," Laila was the perfect bride in a body hugging champagne-colored gown and xxx.

Number 6: Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell (7/14/07)

I had thought that Rebecca looked beautiful at her first wedding and she didn't disappoint the second time around either. A much less formal wedding this time, she looks fantastic in a Ralph Lauren spaghetti-strapped gown. And she and Jerry look liked they had such a good time at their own home surrounded by close family and friends.

Number 5: Katherine McPhee & Nick Cokas (2/2/08)

Our newest newlyweds, Katherine McPhee looks pretty all dressed up. The dress by xxx is simply beautiful. Great cake, too.

Number 4: Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds (1/1/08)

Although this is now on record as one of the shortest celebrity weddings ever, the nuptials of Eddie and Tracey were beautiful and elegant. On the beach in Bora Bora, barefoot, they sure looked happy at the time.

Number 3: Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan (4/20/07)

Such a knock-out couple. Bollywood's best. No need to say more.

Number 2: Giuliana DePandi and Bill Rancic (9/1/07)

Here we are, back in Capri. I saw this wedding on a TV special and fell in love with Capri. I also loved, loved, loved Giuliana's dress (it was perfect for her). I also loved her choice of bridesmaids' gown. I thought the yellow chiffon was such a fresh color and a modern twist. And I typically am not a fan of yellow but in this case, it really worked. Kudos to Guiliana for a wonderfully planned wedding.

Number 1: Eva Longoria and Tony Parker (7/7/07)

This was the wedding of 2007. Hollywood glamor + Paris = over the top but in a great way. Eva was a stunning bride and Angel Sanchez created a dream gown that made the vision all come together.

Eva also looked fantastic in all of her outfits leading up to the wedding including the oh-so chic pink and black Chanel mini-dress and the little white suit. I hope that Eva and Tony's marriage is as enchanted as their lucky wedding date.

Thank you for stopping by Something New. Check us out again soon for what's happening with today's weddings.
